The Department of Digital Arts is a place of artistic education and research that opens up new fields of practice to critically examine those technologies that shape our perception and understanding of reality. The programme focuses on developing artistic design methods and experimental approaches combined with the acquisition of technical knowhow. The study programme is project oriented, theory based and transdisciplinary in a department equipped with production labs for sound, immersion and virtual/augmented reality, electronics, and 3D printing.
As part of the Angewandte Festival 2021, the Department of Digital Arts shows projects for different spatial and situational specifications under the common title “CONNECTION UNSTABLE”. Lichthof A (OKP) exhibits students’ works created in the summer semester of 2021, including sound and video sculptures, gaming and virtual reality projects, spanning both digital and real spaces. In the garden of Zentrum Fokus Forschung, metaphorical bodies enter into dialogue with their surroundings as part of the performative intervention titled “INSIDE OUT”. Associated events in the city show further artistic approaches by the students of digital art.
