Die Diplomarbeit befasst sich mit Untersuchungen einer zeitgenössischen Stahlplastik, die der Künstler Wolfgang Georgsdorf 1982/83 aus Stahlschrott-Fundstücken zusammengeschweißt hat. Im Fokus der Untersuchungen stehen die Stabilität und Oberflächenbeschaffenheit der Stahlkonstruktion. Im Zuge der Arbeit erfolgt eine Bestands- und Zustandsaufnahme, basierend auf eingehender Literaturrecherche und naturwissenschaftlichen Analysen, sowie die Erstellung eines konservatorischen Maßnahmenkonzeptes und eines Leitfadens für einen zukünftigen Transport und Neuaufstellung. Außerdem werden im Gespräch mit dem Künstler Wolfgang Georgsdorf und durch umfassende Recherche der historische Kontext der Stahlplastik dokumentiert. Die Konzeptfindung ist im Schnittpunkt untersuchungstechnischer Erkenntnisse und unterschiedlicher Interessensvertreter (Museum, Künstler, Restaurierungsethik) zu verorten.

For this thesis, a contemporary steel sculpture welded together from found scrap steel pieces by artist Wolfgang Georgsdorf is investigated. The investigation is focused on the stability and surface quality of the steel construction. The main steps in the course of this project consist of a documentation of the physical inventory and condition based on thorough literature research and scientific analysis, and building on this, the development of a concept for conservatory measures, as well as for transporting the object to a new location. Furthermore, the historical context of the steel sculpture is documented, drawing on recorded conversations with the artist and extensive literature research. For developing the conservation concept, several stakeholders and positions have to be taken into account (i.e. museum, artist, conservation ethics).
