Fashion

As part of the Angewandte Festival, a group of students from the Fashion Department presents a series of short fashion films shot on smartphones. Produced with everyday DIY means, which were freely available to students both at home and in public space, these video clips stage fashion as a narrative and performative aesthetic practice. Particularly during the coronavirus crisis and the switch to “distance learning” from home, filming with a smartphone has proven to be a way to shape one’s own design process with the creative use of technology and aesthetics. Freed from conventional modes of presention (fashion shows, professional photo shoots, clothes on live models), the short films explore the artistic scope of fashion and its experimental-performative potentials. They tell short stories about styling as a form of entertainment in the new reality of life confined to one’s apartment, about the quiet peacefulness of doing nothing on a park bench, or show situations in which escapist fantasies and poetic possibilities are realised with and through clothing.
